SUE BAILEY

Behind The Scenes

Having graduated as a fashion illustrator at the prestigious Helen Jardine Artists, Sue has had a varied and interesting career in the fashion industry. She embraced her love of nature by painting on fabric predominantly silk, to create wearables and collectables.

In the 1980’s Sue was asked if she would work as a dresser for a wardrobe management company called at the time ‘Joan and Pamela Chapman’. She joined the team of freelance ladies who are still responsible for dressing the models we see striding down the catwalk during London Fashion week.

Amongst the hustle and bustle, Sue found an opportunity to make sketches of the backstage world. This was during an iconic period at the major fashion shows with such famous personalities as Paul Smith, Jean Paul Gaultier and Tracy Emin modelling Vivienne Westwood outfits.

We have a collection of her sketches from this period showcased alongside paintings of her latest illustrations inspired by vintage fashion.
