A passion for Wood
15 January - 24 February
Local self-taught designer & maker Jason Hart’s passion for working with wood started at an early age in response to regular walks through forests and woodlands as a child.
When an empty workshop space became available locally Jason decided to follow his heart and set up his own woodworking studio. Using basic wood working tools he started making chopping boards for friends and family from wood accumulated over the years. Very soon demand for his work outstripped his ability to supply and he was unable to keep up with orders.
Encouraged, Jason continued to source wood, largely from within a ten-mile radius of his home. Following the storm in 2014, Jason acquired a quantity of authentic walnut from a tree originally planted in Richmond Deer Park by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll in 1973.
Each piece is personal to Jason. Knowing where the wood originated is an important part of the finished art piece. The wood is stored for two years before being transformed into a slender and desirable object. Paring wood, a laborious and time-consuming process, has become an integral part of his technique. Having built up quite a collection of work, Jason has fast established himself as a very accomplished and popular Artist.
