Feeding Frenzy Valencia 2003

Nicola is best known for her work involving movement in natural spaces, birds are often a focal point. She captures the essence of a place and the character and movement within a location. 'Feeding Frenzy', a triptych wall hanging embraces all the above elements and more.
This early piece was influenced during a year spent in Florence where Nicola studied drawing, immersing herself in the history of the Italian early Renaissance and developing a love of fresco painting. She went on to complete a fine art textiles degree at Goldsmith’s College, London in 1984.
Nicola now lives and works in County Clare, Ireland.
The processes and techniques Nicola uses stem from textile traditions associated with functional fabric; discharge printing on cotton calico, ground machine and then hand embroidery. The outcome is more painterly and free with a mesmerising quality that encapsulates the mystery and beauty of medieval Venice.
