Architecture

The award-winning building, designed by architects Robert Shaw and David Brown and Partners, was opened in the Summer of 2006.

Situated in the south west corner of Sunbury's 18th century Walled Garden, the Gallery shape was inspired by one of the last remaining walls from the earlier Sunbury Park House.

Purpose built to house the Sunbury Millennium Embroidery, the Sunbury Gallery was largely financed by the local community who have generously supported the project since its inception.

Individual donations were augmented by fund-raising events and project merchandise. Further funding was provided by Arts Council England, a number of corporate donors, and by Spelthorne Borough Council who also made the Walled Garden location available.

The Gallery is surrounded by Sunbury Park and is a short walk from the River Thames.
