Diana Springall Collection

The reputation of the Gallery has enabled it to acquire the widely acclaimed Diana Springall Collection, a unique and nationally important collection of British Embroidery and Textile Art spanning six decades. It is the only British collection with the unique distinction of covering embroidery as an art form. The collection comprises over 250 pieces together with accompanying paper sketches. Diana Springall was awarded an MBE in the King's Birthday Honours List 2026, fo services to Arts and Crafts. This honour is richly deserved and provides wonderful recognition of her lifelong dedication to embroidery. Through her own outstanding practice, her teaching and mentoring of countless others, the development and stewardship of her remarkable collection, and her tireless enthusiasm for promoting embroidery as a serious and respected art form, she has made an exceptional contribution to the field.

Her passion, generosity, and commitment have inspired generations of embroiderers and helped ensure that the art of embroidery continues to flourish. We are delighted to see her achievements recognised at a national level and offer our warmest congratulations on this well-deserved honour.
